See the impressive 10m high restored telescope skeleton on display for the first time as it celebrates its 150th anniversary. As the largest fully steerable telescope of its time, the Great Melbourne telescope is an important and spectacular part of our astronomic heritage.
The tour will run for approximately 40 minutes and includes viewing the telescope, an expert presentation on the history and restoration of the telescope, and an opportunity to ask questions.
Afterwards, continue the discovery by booking into see the Capturing the Cosmos show in the Melbourne Planetarium at 2pm (Sat & Sun) / 2.30pm (Mon - Fri). Narrated by award-winning Australian Actor Geoffrey Rush, learn about how new and innovative telescopes such as SkyMapper and Murchison Wide-field Array have been designed to survey large sections of the sky and help us better understand our Universe.
