Melbourne Museum is opening its doors for a selection of spectacular late-night programming for the remainder of summer.
Thursdays: 11, 18 & 25 January; 1 & 8 February
Fridays: 12 & 19 January; 9 February
The not-to-be-missed exhibition, Inside Out, is on for a limited time only (must close February 11). But it has extended its hours until late on Thursdays and Fridays during January and February. Inside Out is a rare and surprising museum experience, curated to the disco stylings of Vachel Spirason and Matthew Hadley from Melbourne band, Total Giovanni. Let’s call it a love song to Museums Victoria’s mostly unseen collection of more than 17 million objects. It’s a diverse arrangement of our most beautiful, intriguing and downright bizarre collection items, dusted off and dressed for show.
At Inside Out, a team of Museum curators has lovingly selected 370 extraordinary items from our vast storerooms, many on public display for the first time. Each artefact has been reimagined with unique presentation and captivating storytelling. Star attractions include internet sensation Sad Otter, a wall of immaculate vintage motorcycles, arguably the most perfect British Bulldog specimen that ever did live, and a broader collection of beautiful (and unfortunate) taxidermy, alongside precious gemstones, a tree of 90's Swatch watches and a horse-drawn hearse circa 1990 who's companies catch cry was "When you cease to wriggle, go to Diggle".
Please note the Museum is not open for these late night sessions.
Friday, 2 February
Let's not forget our after-dark live music event, Nocturnal, which takes over on the first Friday of every month. More than just a party, Nocturnal is the transformation of the Museum to an adult playground.
On Friday 2 Feb, Nocturnal and Inside Out come together to provide you with the ultimate party.
With a rotating list of live bands and DJs, a selection of bars, food, and roving entertainers are matched with intriguing discussions and hands-on learning experiences by the Museum’s curators and experts.
Nocturnal has already seen acts like Gold Class, Billy Davis and the Good Lords, Kllo, Slum Sociable, Roland Tings, Dorsal Fins, No Zu, RVG take to the stage. It’s is an after-hours event for adults 18 years and over. Visit the Nocturnal page for tickets, latest line-up announcements and further details.
