A Summer of Model Making

Mega Makerspace is a children’s model making workshop.

Become a model maker and create with us this summer. We’ll be making everything from cars to kangaroos!

Use a variety of creative and technical problem-solving skills to create a model at all of our maker stations, learning different model making techniques, or concentrate on making just one special model. You will also have the opportunity to create a stop motion animation using your own models.

Join us for up to two hours of model making. We want you to help create two beautiful mega mini worlds.

Developed specially for children 6–12 years old.

Meet in the foyer on the ground floor, in front of the Forest Gallery.

Each session includes a tour of Melbourne Museum’s newest family exhibition Mini Mega Model Museum.

Notes for parents and carers

Parents and carers need to purchase a museum entry ticket to accompany their child.

The gallery space will get very crowded  so we are setting up a lounge room right next to the makerspace for accompanying adults. There will be some activities for children five years and under, and couches and magazines.  Parents and carers are required to be available if children need them, or they want to leave early.

  • All materials are provided.
  • Participants are advised to wear old clothes just in case of paint splashes.
  • All children must be at least six years of age to participate in the makerspace.
  • We will be using paints, plasticine, small swallowable parts such as miniature people, glue, tape, coconut fibre, wire and paper. No child under the age of six can enter the makerspace due to this selection of materials.
  • You may like to bring a container to take your models home.
