This fascinating back of house tour takes you through Museums Victoria’s Conservation Laboratory, Preparation Department and Society & Technology collections.
Walk through our back corridors to the Conservation Laboratory to meet the talented team of conservators. Museums Victoria’s conservators have the huge task of preserving over 17 million objects and specimens and preparing them for exhibition, loan and research. You’ll also get a glimpse into the remarkable Preparators’ Workshop, where taxidermists work to create life-like mounts, and conjure extraordinary visual tricks.
We will also take you on a stunning experience seeing a range of collections developed over nearly 160 years. These collections are an irreplaceable resource for understanding the past, reflecting on the present and looking into the future.
Please note: tours suitable for ages 12+, unless specified otherwise. All bags, drink bottles and prams will need to be left in our cloakroom for the duration of the tour as some collection stores are small with tight spaces. Please arrive 15 minute prior to tour start time to ensure tour can begin on time.
