The Summer of Love has arrived!
This weekend, Immigration Museum opens its doors to LOVE, a moving and moody new exhibition curated in collaboration with the Heide Museum of Modern Art, and launches its Summer of Love programming with a special public event this Sunday 2 December.
From the very depths of its heart, the Immigration Museum will pulse with love in all its guises this summer.
The bold and swoon-worthy program features three specially-commissioned exhibitions with three very different connections to love.
Plus! A sweet line-up of exuberant events that will have lovers falling hard and fast for the Immigration Museum all over again.
Tomorrow, on the first day of summer, the Immigration Museum opens its doors to LOVE, a specially commissioned exhibition curated in partnership with the Heide Museum of Modern Art that explores stories of the heart. Alongside this are new soulmate exhibitions Kahlil Gibran: The Garden of the Prophet, a unique look at the life and work of the literary icon behind The Prophet; and Grow, Gather, Share, a beautiful display that celebrates the diversity of gardening and food here in Victoria.
These exhibitions will sit in partnership with an exciting line-up of events, starting with Summer of Love on Sunday 2 December.
Highlights of this super special event include:
- Mz Rizk spinning tunes inspired by Kahlil Gibran and LOVE.
- Drop-in gardening workshops with Cultivating Community, inspired by Sunday Reed's Heart Garden.
- Exclusive Curator Talks within the LOVE and Kahlil Gibran exhibitions.
- Wild Card card-making activity with local illustrators Able and Game.
- Gather & Share picnic hampers to share with your lover, Tinder date or other loved one.
As Rohini Kappadath said, this exploration of a universal emotion that connects us all is a signifier for exciting things to come at the Immigration Museum.
"The Immigration Museum is very proud of the way that we have always celebrated the rich cultural diversity that makes this city and this state such a fantastic place to live. This summer we begin to explore the new and different ways people are connecting in all their complexity, through the human experiences that we all share," Kappadath said.
In 2019 the feels will continue with a series of fun and vibrant events in the Immigration Museum’s glorious courtyard. Stay tuned for more details!
LOVE. We share it with our lovers, our friends, our family and the odd internet crush. Come and share it with the Immigration Museum!
