What's On

Play On joins forces with the Immigration Museum to present the ground-breaking South Korean multi-instrumentalist and composer Park Jiha in Australia for the very first time.

With a practice grounded in South Korean classical music, Jiha’s genre-defying compositions exist at the intersection between old and new, transcending the space between South Korean traditional music and an otherworldly futuristic aesthetic.

For this special one-off Melbourne performance Jiha presents works from her highly praised latest record ‘Philos’ (2019), a solo album in which the artist performs her mesmerising compositions on South Korean instruments including the piri, saenghwang and yanggeum. Moving between a spacious and almost ambient sound world to a frenetic, hyper-rhythmic sensibility, the performance is guaranteed to deliver a revelatory and unorthodox listening experience.

Celebrated for curating programs that are equal parts classical concert and dance party, Play On invites Melbourne underground cult-hero - DJ Moopie - to play a high-energy dance-floor ready set to close the night.

Presented by Play On and Immigration Museum for AsiaTOPA.
