Photograph of Man with club and Whale teeth necklace

Sperm whale teeth fastened together with sinnet fibre, magimagi. Like all whale's teeth ornaments, this one was fashioned by Tongan craftsmen. This necklace, however, was probably made in more recent times, as the sinnet holding the teeth together is sparse rather than that seen on the other necklace of this kind where the continuous cord is lashed and re-lashed around the teeth, securing each one firmly to its neighbour.
