Ratu Tanoa, King of Bau

The image is of Ratu Tanoa Visawaqa, King of Bau 1829-1832 and 1837-1852. This is perhaps one of the earliest depictions of the rare black-lipped pearl-shell breast plates, civa. On his head is the turban-like masi head scarf, i-vauvau.
