What's On

One Day. Many Voices.

Fifty years ago on May 27 1967, over 90% of Australians voted to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the national census and allow the Commonwealth to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

With the biggest ‘yes’ vote in Australian history, the 1967 Referendum represented a beacon of hope for race relations.  Bunjilaka has invited local Koorie artists to respond to the occasion through paintings, digital collages and video installations.  The exhibition will also feature historic and contemporary footage reflecting on this period of change.

Artists featured include:

  • Mandy Nicholson
  • Nathan Patterson
  • Leonie Solomon-Green
  • Judith Young
  • Richard Young
  • Hayley Millar-Baker
  • Arika Waulu
  • Josh Muir
