As a Project Officer for the Australian Biological Resources Study (ABRS) I update the Australian Faunal Directory according to most recent taxonomic research. New species and animals are being found around Australia all the time. I read these new descriptions to acquire information on phylogeny, nomenclature, type specimens, and distribution. This information is brought together and made freely available as a national resource. It is used to inform policy, academia, and organisations.
As a Legacy Registration Officer I work on Museums Victoria’s collection digitization project. The purpose of my role is to enhance the accessibility and management of the State Collection, which I contribute to by physically and electronically registering specimens. To complete registrations I integrate taxonomy knowledge with data sourced from reliable resources. Recently I have been working on Bivalves, and Victorian Insects for DELWPs fire recovery efforts.
A critical component of my work is safe handling practices of specimens. This includes protection from chemicals, handling delicate specimens, and performing minor conservation on damaged specimens.
A highlight of working at MV is participating in Science Communication activities. I have enjoyed opportunities such as creating an online video as part of the ‘Unboxing’ series and presenting at Nocturnal events.
