I have been working with Indigenous collections from around the globe in a museum context for several decades. I have extensive experience in both collection management and curation. I have worked with Indigenous ethnographic collections from the Pacific Islands, Africa, Asia and the Americas as well as collections from Aboriginal Australia. Prior to joining Museums Victoria I worked in the Anthropology Department at the Australian Museum in Sydney.
In my current position as Collection Manager of the International Indigenous Collections, Museums Victoria, I am responsible for the care of approximately 23,000 objects. The Oceanic ethnographic collection - representing the diverse material cultures of Melanesia, Polynesia and Micronesia - with over 17,600 objects, is one of the largest and most significant public collections of its kind in the world.
Key areas of my work include registration and cataloguing, administration of loans, digitisation of collection material, acquisition and enhancement of the collections via documentation and research and re-housing of collections.
I have a keen interest in archaeology, anthropology, history, contemporary art and music. I am a member of the Australia Registrar’s Committee, the Oceanic Arts Society, Music Victoria and the Australasian Performing Right Association.
I graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Arts (Classical Studies/Pre-Classical Antiquity) and Deakin University with a Graduate Diploma of Applied Science (Museum Studies).
